¹ No doubt throughout all past time there actually occurred a series of events which, whether we know what it was or not, constitutes history in some ultimate sense. ² Nevertheless, much the greater part of these events we can know nothing about, not even that they occurred; many of them we can know only imperfectly; and even the few events that we think we know for sure we can never be absolutely certain of, since we can never revive them, never observe or test them directly.

目的語などを文頭に出すことで、その語句を強調し、話の主題であることを明確に示します。
関係詞節の中に I think や we believe のような「思考・発言」を表す動詞句が挿入されたものを「連鎖関係詞節」と呼びます。これらは挿入節として捉え、一旦ないものとして文構造を考えると理解しやすくなります。

本文の the few events that we think we know for sure では、関係詞 that 節の中に we think が挿入されています。この we think を除くと、the few events that we know for sure という構造が見えてきます。
Point
関係詞節に I think などが挿入されていたら、それらをカッコでくくって、関係詞が節のどこに繋がるのか（主格か目的格か）を判断するのが読解の鍵です。

1. No doubt throughout all past time there actually occurred a series of events... は「きっと過去のあらゆる時代を通して…一連の出来事が実際に起こった」という語順です。There の後ろには、be動詞だけでなく exist, come のような「存在・出現・到来」を表す自動詞も使われます。
関係詞節 which ... constitutes history... の中には、whether we know what it was or not という譲歩節が挿入されています。この節中の it は先行する関係代名詞 which を指します。
2. ...since we can never revive them, never observe or test them directly は「なぜなら、我々は①それらを蘇らせることは決してできないし、②それらを直接見たり調べたりすることができないからである」という意味です。since は主節の内容に対して、付加的に理由を述べる接続詞です。them は revive, observe, test の共通の目的語です。
